Extensively researched tale of the Puritans who were exiled from Virginia by Governor Berkeley after their break with the Anglican Church. Their settlement of Providence, near Annapolis, was the first on the Severn River. Moss spent 40 years in his research but felt that few people would be interested in a presentation of the "dry facts," so he wrote the book as a story to showcase his detailed historical research. Unfortunately, most of his research has again been scattered, but this book has survived and preserves much interesting and useful data. Appendices contain information on early plantation owners, the Battle of the Severn, and a guide to the documentation for this book. Bound in grey cloth over boards with spine and upper board lettered in burgundy, endpaper maps. A few very faint brown specks to textblock edges. Crisp and apparently unread. An essential Maryland title.
